Dental implants in Dunlop, Belghoria
A missing tooth changes how you eat, speak and smile. A dental implant replaces the root as well as the crown, so the result is fixed in place and behaves like your own tooth — not something you take out at night.
What a dental implant actually is
An implant is a small titanium post placed into the jawbone where a tooth root used to be. Once the bone grows around it — a process called osseointegration — the post becomes a stable anchor, and a crown is fitted on top of it.
That is what separates an implant from every other replacement. A bridge rests on the teeth either side and depends on them staying healthy. A denture sits on the gum. An implant is fixed to bone, so biting force travels through it much the way it does through a natural tooth.
You may be a candidate if
- you have lost one tooth and the gap is affecting chewing or speech;
- several teeth are missing and a denture feels loose or bulky;
- a bridge on the neighbouring teeth is failing or has already damaged them;
- your gums are healthy and there is enough bone to hold the post in place.
When we would advise against it
Implants are not the right answer for everyone, and saying so is part of the job. Active gum disease and uncontrolled diabetes affect healing and have to be managed first. Heavy smoking lowers success rates. Where bone has been lost, a graft may be needed before placement — or a bridge may simply be the more sensible option.
All of this is visible on the free digital X-ray, which is exactly why the examination comes before any plan.
Step by step
How treatment runs at the clinic
-
Consultation and free digital X-ray
We examine the gap, the neighbouring teeth and the bone, and take a digital X-ray at no charge. This is the appointment where we find out whether an implant is realistic.
-
A written plan and estimate
You get the sequence, the number of visits and the cost before anything begins — not a figure revealed halfway through treatment.
-
Placement under local anaesthesia
The post is placed with the area fully numbed. Most people describe pressure rather than pain during the procedure itself.
-
Healing and fusion
The implant is left undisturbed while the bone integrates with it. This stage takes months, not days — it is what makes the implant stay put for years.
-
Crown fitting and review
Once the implant is stable, the crown is shaped and fitted to match your other teeth, followed by a review appointment.
What recovery is actually like
Expect tenderness and some swelling around the site for a few days, and a soft diet while it settles. Ordinary pain relief is usually enough — we tell you exactly what to take, and when to call us instead of waiting.
Total treatment time varies with bone quality and how many teeth are being replaced; it often runs over several months from placement to final crown. We give you a realistic timeline at the consultation rather than an optimistic one, and the free X-ray is what makes that estimate worth anything.
Implant, bridge or denture?
Each has a place. A denture is the least invasive and the quickest to make, but it moves. A bridge is fixed and faster than an implant, but it requires grinding down healthy neighbouring teeth. An implant leaves those teeth untouched and preserves bone — at the cost of time and a surgical step. If two of the three are reasonable for your mouth, we will tell you so and let you choose.
