Root canal treatment
Root canal treatment in Belghoria, Kolkata
A root canal is what saves a tooth that would otherwise be extracted. The infection is cleaned out from inside the tooth, the space is sealed, and the tooth stays in your mouth doing its job.
Signs you may need one
Root canal treatment is needed when the pulp — the soft tissue inside the tooth — becomes infected or inflamed. The usual signals:
- pain that lingers for more than a few seconds after something hot or cold;
- a throbbing ache that wakes you at night;
- pain when biting down, or a tooth that feels raised and tender;
- swelling, or a small pimple-like bump on the gum beside the tooth;
- deep decay or a crack that has reached the pulp — sometimes with no pain at all.
That last point matters: an infected tooth is not always a painful one. It is exactly what a digital X-ray shows, and it is why this clinic takes one free.
Why not simply remove the tooth?
Extraction is faster and cheaper on the day, and sometimes it is the right call. But every tooth you keep holds its neighbours in position and preserves the bone underneath. Removing one starts a slow shift that often ends in a bridge or an implant anyway.
Where the tooth can be saved, saving it is usually the better long-term decision. Where it cannot, we will say so plainly rather than talk you into hopeless treatment.
Step by step
How treatment runs at the clinic
-
Examination and X-ray
We identify which tooth is responsible — pain often refers to a neighbour — and confirm it on a free digital X-ray.
-
Numbing and isolation
The tooth is numbed with local anaesthesia and isolated so the working area stays clean and dry through the procedure.
-
Cleaning the canals
The infected pulp is removed and the canals are cleaned, shaped and disinfected down to their full length.
-
Sealing
The canals are filled and sealed so bacteria cannot return into the tooth.
-
Crown or filling
A back tooth usually needs a crown to take chewing force. A front tooth may only need a filling.
Will it hurt?
The procedure itself should not be painful — the tooth is fully numbed before work begins, and the pain that brought you in usually settles once the infected tissue is removed.
Mild tenderness for a day or two afterwards is normal and responds to ordinary pain relief. If you are anxious about dental treatment, say so at the start: each step gets explained and we pause whenever you need a break. That is often the difference between tolerating treatment and dreading it.
How many visits will it take?
Many cases are finished in one or two appointments, depending on how many canals the tooth has and how badly it is infected. The free X-ray tells us which tooth we are dealing with, and therefore what to expect — before you sit in the chair rather than halfway through.

Toothache that will not settle?
Pain that lingers after hot or cold, or wakes you at night, usually means the pulp is involved. The earlier it is treated, the simpler it is.
